The average woman uses approximately 12 beauty products a day. That translates to more than 100 chemicals applied to the skin per day, sometimes twice a day, and year over year.
The cumulative impact of the chemical ingredients we put on our skin is often and sadly overlooked.
We've done our homework: Our top clean beauty products
Here's a list of some brands we love—they're committed to the quality, integrity, and transparency in their products' ingredients:
Beautycounter's Vitamin C All Bright Serum
All Bright Vitamin C Serum will make you smile. Here's why:
Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant. When applied topically, it acts as a shield on the skin. It fights off free radicals, like pollutants and toxins that tend to attach to our skin and can cause cell mutations or growths over time.
Also, it is an absolute powerhouse at brightening the skin and slowing down the production of melanin from sun exposure (think evening out skin discoloration and age spots).
It is best to use this product in the morning before you apply your sunscreen for the day. When used in conjunction with a good SPF, you'll see beautiful results with your skin. Vitamin C will correct your skin imperfections, while the SPF protects your skin from environmental stressors like the sun.
How do I use Beautycounter's Vitamin C All Bright Serum if I'm already using a serum?
Think of it as a vitamin for your skin. It's a concentrated dose of vitamin C and helps to protect your skin. It serves to slow the production of melanin. The serum that you are currently using in your skincare regimen likely serves a different purpose.
You can use it both morning and night, but we think once a day (or every other day) is sufficient and will extend the product's life.
DIME Eyelash Boost Serum
This safer eyelash serum might not work as quickly as others, but the results are impressive if you stick with it! It's a safer alternative for growing your lashes long and strong. It has amino acids and peptides that improve the length, density, quantity, strength of hair, and overall follicle health.
Key benefits
- Improves the appearance of eyelashes and eyebrows
- Builds up hair for a longer life span and tenure in hair follicles
- All ingredients are a 1 rating on the EWG scale
- Vegan + cruelty-free
Prices are in US dollars, but most lash serums are expensive. $44US is reasonable even with the currency exchange rate.
Nemat Indian Essential Oil Perfume
We get compliments everywhere we go wearing this lovely essential oil perfume! It has a light natural scent that doesn't overpower.
The Attarwala family behind Nemat has been involved in the art and science of making attars for over 170 years. Attar is the name given to fragrant oils made from extracts of flowers, herbs, woods etc. The family name Attar + wala means possessor of perfumes.
The entire collection of products are vegan, cruelty-free, phthalate, paraben and glycol-free and certified by PETA and Leaping Bunny.
Beautycounter Clean Deodorant
As you've likely noticed, we are huge fans of Beautycounter products. The co-owner of OOLAMAY, Allison, is also a consultant for the Beautycounter brand, and we continue to be impressed with every Beautycounter product we've tried.
Beautycounter Clean Deodorant packs amazing sweat control. In addition to being an aluminum-free stick deodorant that works with just a couple of swipes and lasts the entire day, it also comes in refillable packaging. All you have to do is pop the stick out of its packaging and refill it into the same outer packaging, reducing the amount of waste in landfills. Refills are $24
Arbonne Glow On Bronzer
Long-wearing and blendable, this universally flattering bronzer is one of our faves. It gives you that natural-looking, sun-kissed radiance with lavender, licorice and chamomile extract to soothe the skin and make it look super glowy.
Virtue Shampoo
You'll have better hair for knowing about this brand.
Virtue Shampoo is at a higher price point, but it sure does help heal the hair by resurfacing and filling in cracks in damaged hair with a powerful ingredient called Alpha Keratin 60ku™. The science and story behind Alpha Keratin 60ku™ is pretty interesting too.
Virtue Labs was born after Dr. Luke Burnett, who was leading a regenerative medicine lab, working to heal burn wounds with the protein keratin, was inspired to find other uses for this healing ingredient. They discovered an entirely new way to collect Keratin in its pure form, which is what makes up 90% of our hair, skin and nails. They went on to trademark the ingredient, Alpha Keratin 60ku™ and developed this incredible hair care line.
